Microsoft SideWinder Gaming Mouse

The name Microsoft SideWinder has been associated since a long time with several gaming peripherals like gamepads or joysticks, until Microsoft has stopped producing them.

Recently Microsoft started to use the SideWinder brand again for its new product, SideWinder Mouse, designed especially for games, that comes with a spectacular feature, the Quick Turn macro button for turning character 180 degrees.

Microsoft SideWinder Gaming Mouse

As a general description, the mouse has resolution of 2000 dpi; processes images with 7080 fps; the acceleration can reach 20G; maximum speed is 45 inches per second; the left and right buttons support up to 9 million clicks.

All-in-One Speakers with Artistic Design

Speakers all-in-one is a concept design by Erick Sakal, which demonstrate a speaker that has everything in just one unit. The extraordinary appearance of this speaker has made it a quite attractive piece which holds a sub-woofer in the center, two tweeters on both sides and a center speaker located on the top. The speaker is offering brilliant sound quality and a superb look with the artistic design that combines smoothly finished wood and strong glossy steel. The key feature of this speaker is it can receive Bluetooth data from your ipod or iphone simply by connecting an additional small device.

Proof That MAG is Coming Out in 2009?

Sony is finally starting to show off the PlayStation 3’s potential. Killzone 2 has received praise for its ultra-realistic graphics and exciting gameplay. MLB: The Show could easily be the best baseball game and perhaps the sports game of the year. Now PS3 owners are now anxiously waiting for even more hits — and Sony has them coming, but the question is; when will they arrive in stores.

One of these titles is Zipper Interactive’s high-profile game MAG. The massively multiplayer online shooting was first announced at last year’s E3. But since its unveiling, it has been a blur of when we should expect to get out hands on it. For some reason, Sony has been going back and forth using the terms “this year” and “fiscal year.” If your wondering if there is a difference; the answer is yes — and its a HUGE difference (depending how you look at it). This year would obviously mean by the end of 2009, while fiscal (for Sony) means anywhere from April 2009 to March 2010.

Scott Rohde who is Sony’s Vice President of Product Development, might have given us a little insight of when MAG should be available. While talking about the quality of the PS3’s lineup for 2009, he mentioned the shooter.

“I think what we try to do is come up with original concepts, and even twists on some existing genres, like what we’re doing with MAG for later this year”

Because we are still in March, 2009-2010’s fiscal year for Sony has yet to start. Meaning, MAG should debut by the end of 2009. Unless of course, Sony sends the PR dogs out and they correct Mr Rohde, which is always possible. Until then, expect to be playing the shooter sometime later this year.

Top 4 Gaming Mobiles

There has never been an official transition of the handheld gaming console over to the mobile phone segment. Of course you understand it was never necessary in the first place. Both devices are portable in nature and the purpose of using the handset for merely taking calls like a telephone quickly became obsolete. But I’ve said this before; mobile gaming is a big deal, ever since those Snake games on the old monochrome handsets of yore were followed by Java games that are still big time winners today.

The mobile phone market now even has a separate category of multimedia handsets for this specific purpose – gaming. Some gaming mobiles are more generic in nature but do still manage to offer superb capabilities to be used for handheld mobile gaming. In case you like to take your games everywhere and already have a Nintendo DS or PSP or other portable gaming devices that satisfy your fetish for gaming hardware, here’re a few mobiles phones you might want to consider.

Spice X1 Rs. 8,000
Spice’s X1 gaming mobile may have taken mobile gaming to the next level by reviving an older SE idea of a joystick attachment accessory for a mobile phone. The X1 comes bundled with this attachable controller that makes game-play a great experience. The handset itself also comes with a set of ‘X’ and ‘O’ action keys and you don’t necessarily need to use the controller.

Spice has preloaded a few JAVA games onto the handset and provides quite a few games in the NES ROM format. Nostalgic gamers will enjoy this. You can choose from a list of those oldies but good, 8 bit classics like Batman, Mario and even Kung Fu. It has a large 2.4-inch TFT LCD with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution that only helps while playing and also features a microSD card slot, Stereo Bluetooth, a 2MP camera and GPRS support among other things.

Sony Ericsson F305 – Rs. 9,000
The F305 could very well be SE’s flagship mobile for a possible range of new gaming handsets, since Sony is no stranger to the gaming market with their PSP rating quite high on the handheld gaming console segment of gadgetry.

The handset may have just one drawback and that’s its small 2-inch display that sports a 176 x 220 pixel resolution; but it makes up for that with plenty of other relevant features. The handset has been designed with two gaming styles in mind – motion sensor and full screen landscape games. The motion sensor games allow you to use the device like a Wii controller by swinging your arms for action. Since the handset also comes with ‘X’ and ‘O’ gaming keys on either side of the earpiece, games that can be played in landscape mode are much more entertaining. Other features include an audio player, FM radio and a 2MP camera plus Bluetooth with A2DP and GPRS/EDGE support. It supports JAVA games and M2 cards for external memory.

Nokia N85 - Rs. 23, 000
Nokia’s N-Series has always been a popular range of mobile handsets because of their multimedia capabilities. One of the successors to the N81 handset that was the first to host Nokia’s N-Gage gaming platform and was designed for gaming purposes, the N85, takes it up a notch with its dual-slider capabilities and 5MP AF camera.

The N85 is also being classified as a gaming handset because of its superb 2.5-inch, 240 x 320 pixel, 16 million color, OLED display. The once-dedicated-multimedia-keys that appear from the top double as gaming keys for the phone. The handset does seem a bit heavy though at 128g, but that only adds to the stability of the phone in your hand while gaming. It’s also equipped with a microSD card slot, Stereo Bluetooth, internal GPS (AGPS Support), TV out, and Wi-fi. It supports JAVA and .SIS game formats. Look out for the review on Tech2.com.

Fast Charging Batteries

MIT researchers working on rechargeable battery technology believe they may have discovered a breakthrough that will significantly improve battery charging times.

Fast Charging Batteries - Future Technology

As to how fast, professor Gerbrand Ceder indicates that a small lithium-ion battery, those commonly found in cell phones could be recharged in under 10 seconds. Additionally, large batteries such as those that will power plug-in gas or electric cars could be recharged in just a few minutes.

The improvements in battery charge times are due to a coat of lithium phosphate which forces the battery to charge in short but intense bursts.

Researchers indicate that they have already licensed the new technology to unnamed companies and expect to see this technology enter the marketplace in the next two to three years.

Max Payne 3 coming to Xbox 360, PS3, PC this winter

For all the things Mark Wahlberg has killed in his life — The Happening, The Funky Bunch, The Happening Funky Bunch (short-lived kids show, don’t ask) — he’s brought at least one thing back to life: The Max Payne series. His non-hit film adaptation will be followed by Max Payne 3, which Rockstar said will arrive in winter of this year on the 360, PS3 and PC.

Here’s what Rockstar boss Sam Houser had to say about the sequel: “We’re starting a new chapter of Max’s life with this game. This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”

We think we speak for everyone when we ask this. … More cynical? Really? Like, is he just stealing candy from babies and choking them to death with the wrappers?

Steampunk remake of War of the Worlds promises tripod-on-tripod action

Steampunk-War-of-the-Worlds-Heavy-Metal.jpgHow do you grab attention for your upcoming straight-to-DVD animated film? Say stuff like “1,500-foot-long armored zeppelins” and “steam-powered battle tripods.” Oh, and “sex in the cockpit” probably didn’t hurt, either.

War of the Worlds: Goliath promises all of that and more, according to a rough synopsis on the Heavy Metal Magazine Fan Page by director Joe Pearson:

It’s an R-rated, retro-history, [1914 steampunk epic], fourteen years after the first failed Martian invasion. Mankind has rebuilt her cities and [the military is] adapting a lot of the abandoned Martian technology… Think of “Band of Brothers” meets “Star Wars”… It will be cool, steam-powered battle tripods, doomed Cossack cavalry charges, Victorian deco, steampunk Manhattan, 1,500-foot-long armored battle zeppelins, Teddy Roosevelt, souped up tri-planes, blood on steaming metal, sex in the cockpit. The usual… It will have a budget of around $3 million, and be produced by Tripod Entertainment… and is being co-produced by Kevin Eastman (owner of Heavy Metal).

First Call of Duty: World at War map pack released

The first piece of downloadable content for Call of Duty: World at War is now available on Xbox Live and (coming later today on) PSN. For 800 ($9.99), you can pick up four new maps for Activision’s WWII shooter: “Station,” a close-quarters underground encounter; “Nightfire,” a large battlefield depicting a bombed-out Berlin; “Knee Deep,” a huge, jungle-based scenario; and “Verrückt,” the promised Nazombie expansion, which, aside from meriting its own trailer (posted after the jump), contains additional weapons, Perks-a-Cola machines and “electroshock defenses.” Man, we had no idea history could be so totally awesome.

Weaponized lasers move from sci-fi to reality

laserweapon.jpgThe military just took one huge step toward making a laser weapon a functional reality. Northrop Grumman just announced a successful test of a 100-kilowatt laser, considered battlefield strength.

This solid-state laser is not as powerful as a chemical laser, but it can be powered by a jet or tank engine, and is much smaller. Unlike the lasers we’re used to, this one will have a beam that’s invisible. Bummer.

Unfortunately, it’s still a few years and $100 million away from being used in the field. The problem is reducing the size, weight and cost of the laser guns. Dr. Brian Strickland, manager of the Army’s Joint High Power Solid State Laser program said, “The next step would be to take the laser from the laboratory to the field and begin shooting down missiles with it.” He also said that they want to get the cost down. “We want to have a laser that costs $15 to $20 million.” Don’t we all?

‘Cole Cleaner’ lovingly disinfects a single soda for your drinking pleasure

Cole-Cleaner-by-Leon-Peng.jpgSometimes I buy a soda and notice a little gunk on the rim. So what do I do? I wipe it off or grab a straw. I hear some folks even run ‘em under hot water thinking it’ll disinfect it. Serious soda drinkers, however, let their soft drinks chill in a Cole Cleaner for a few minutes.

A concept by designer Leon Peng, the Cole Cleaner (not a typo) will treat your soda of choice to a little bacteria-killing UV radiation. Call me crazy, but this seems like a pretty extreme way to enjoy a soda. Granted, I’d rather not think about what gross stuff there could be on top of the can, but it only does one drink at a time, and only soft drink cans. If you’re drinking enough soda to need something like this, the stuff in the can has probably already built your resistance up to the crud on the outside.

Locus 3WAY pen has ink, pencil, eraser for $55; sleek clip is free

3waypen6.jpgI don’t know about you, but when I was in junior high school, those big honking pens that would change from red to blue to black ink were the bomb. All the cool kids had one. Those kids are all grown up now.

Japanese stationary designer Metaphys has designed a pen that kicks that old pen’s butt. The sleek, trim Locus 3WAY pen, selling for about $55, has an ink pen, mechanical pencil and eraser — all just one click away.

While the triple design is certainly reason enough to pick up a pen like this, the designer thinks that the clip is the real deal.

“Writing items are personal objects, which reflect the personality of the owner. Most pens have only subtle differences in writing function. METAPHYS has therefore focused on how the pen’s clip is displayed outwardly on a chest pocket. The stroke-like clip has become an icon representative of METAPHYS writing instruments.”

The LED handcrank powered Slik-Stik

Here’s a nice update to the classic boring walking stick.  It adds a few extra features that make using a walking stick far more convenient.  The big perk being that the stick is housed with LED lights.  Making walking at night a lot easier to do and definitely a lot more safe.  Even better is that the LED lights shine in two different directions.  One shines up ahead and the other at your feet, making it highly less likely you’ll stumble over any unseen objects.

The Slik-Stik walking stick has other nice features such as having a built-in magnet for when items are dropped.  It also has a wrist strap to make sure you don’t drop the cane itself, there is also a rubberized hand grip with a non-slip coating to prevent dropping.  The cane has a four position stem that will adjust to the height that is most comfortable for you.  It also folds up to make it easier to store when it’s not in use.  To power the lights you can either plug it in or wind it up for a slightly more eco-friendly approach

Garmin-Asus nüvifone G60 heads for MWC ‘09

Garmin-Asus will make the most out of their presence at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain next week by using it as a platform to introduce the new nüvifone G60, the firstfruits of their labor that will be unleased to the world. This is a quad-band GSM handset and boasts 3.5G connectivity that caters for high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) networks as well as Wi-Fi connections, making it one truly connected phone that allows you to go online from virtually anywhere without suffering from poor download speeds (as long as the signal strength is strong enough and there are enough 3G spots around, of course, since surfing on EDGE or GPRS can be quite a pain in this day and age). More on the G60 right after the jump.

Some of the nüvifone G60’s features include a generous 3.55″ display which boasts a trio of primary icons – “Call,” “Search,” and “View Map.” There are secondary icons as well that appear on the side of the home screen, and these can be organized according to your own preference. Icons can be scrolled up and down using the swipe of a finger, while the integrated accelerometer allows you to view each screen in either portrait or landscape orientation, depending on what you’re looking at. Designers of the nüvifone G60 developed it in mind with an LBS-centric design philosophy, where location information is integrated with everyday applications such as email, SMS, photo sharing, social networking and more. Sounds fun, but not so if you’ve informed your boss that you have to take a week off to attend your grandmother’s funeral in Ohio while the G60 shows that you’re in Miami instead.

There is no word on pricing or availability, but we expect the G60 to be out sometime before the first half of 2009 is over. Nice to see more smartphones hit the market to heat up the competition.

Cool8800C – Cheap Flip Phone With Gaming Console

The Cool8800C looks like any other cheap cell phone in it’s closed state. It’s only when the flip phone is opened does it reveal a portable handheld game console that is compatible with NES games.

Weird Game Phone

When I saw this phone, i began to doubt, what is it? Is it really a phone? On first sight, it is just a plain bar phone. But if you hold it in your hand and study carefully, you will discover that it is also a flip phone. The outer keyboard and display can be unfolded, and then another 2.8 inch large display appears, 2 seperate keypads beside the display just like keys of PSP. And friend, it also has powerful functions such as dual sim dual standby, Analog TV, magical voice.

Other then this unique feature, the other features of the Cool8800C are fairly typical and include a 2.2″ display, MP3/MP4 player, FM Radio, alarm clock, and 3 games.

You can buy this phone for $140, but because this model does not work on the 900/1800MHz networks, it is not suited for the North American markets.

LightLane Gadget Outline Bike Lane For Road Safety

All bicyclists adhere to bicycle safety guidelines when riding along busy streets. There are some things that you can control like having a well fitting bike helmet, wearing reflective clothing during a night ride and using hand signals but inevitably, there are some things that are much harder to control such as impatient motorists that drive to close to the curb.

LightLane is an ingenious gadget that uses lasers to clearly outline a virtual bike lane behind the bicyclist.

This virtual lane defines a lane that motor vehicle drivers can see and will hopefully respect. With the price of gas only increasing, more people will turn to green transportation and biking will be one of them.

We hear everyday of cars colliding with bikes and if products such as LightLane can improve bike safety, it will be a real plus for everyone.

According to the designer, this cool design plays on several basic human emotions including the fear of getting eaten by a bear, being a bear as well as wearing a bear skin.

Wasp Injection Knife

Wasp injection Knife

When I read about the Wasp Injection Knife, I couldn’t help but think this is one lethal weapon, capable of bringing down the largest of creatures with a single strike.

If you’ve ever done any form of diving, you are familiar with the effects that compressed air can have on the body. As part of the training all divers receive, they are taught that holding your breath while surfacing would cause your lungs to expand and eventually burst.

The premise behind the Wasp Injection Knife is the same. This easy to load knife, will inject a frozen ball of compressed air, roughly the size of a basketball at nearly 800 psi upon strike of it’s target, causing even the largest of animals to drop.

The knife has a multitude of functions. In an aquatic environment, the knife can be used as self defense against large predators. When a predator is struck with the knife, the compressed air causes the region around the strike wound to freeze. The compressed air also causes the predator to float to the surface, thereby drawing other predators away from your area.

This knife will of course have military uses as well. Within the military, the knife has often been the last line of defense, protecting the soldier from harm. Over the years, the knife has undergone some transformation in terms of it’s cutting surface, but there has been very little radical transformation, that is up until now. Needless to say, with this knife, the military personnel will certainly have an advantage.

Palm Pistol – The Ergonomically Correct Firearm

Whether you agree with it or not, carrying a firearm is a constitutional right in the US and many feel strongly about expressing that right. Palm Pistol is the design of certified NRA instructor Matthew Carmel. With his design, pretty much anyone can use a firearm. It doesn’t matter if you fingers are to arthritic, if you are elderly, if you are disabled, or if you just want an unusual firearm, the Palm Pistol will meet the needs of many.

The Palm Pistol is an ergonomically correct single shot double action defensive firearm. It can be fired using either arm and regardless of orientation of the stock. Rather then relying on the index finger to fire, the Palm Pistol can be fired using the thumb. As a result of this, muzzle drift is reduced, thereby improving the accuracy of the firearm.

According to Palm Pistol, “Point and shoot couldn’t be easier.”

Battery Charging Station – Radius Tree Of Charge

Here’s a cool design for a battery charging station known as the Radius Tree Of Charge.

Battery Charging Station - Radius Tree Of Charge

The charging station itself takes the form of a decorative tree and serves a variety of functions. The branches themselves act as both a magnetic board where you can hang family pictures as well as a key rack so you never have to search for lost keys.

The base of the tree is where you can charge your electronic gadgets such as cell phones, digital cameras and portable mp3 players. The best part of the charging station is that it acts as a cable management solution since unsightly cables are tucked away inside the pot.

The Tree Of Charge is made out of powder-coated steel and is available online through the Radius Design Shop.
