Mojo Rising For Motorola In 2009?

Motorush2_2 Motorola is counting on some snazzy colors and sleek design to add pizzazz to its line-up of cellphones next year.

A leak of some of the company’s phones for 2009 shows eye-catching design that could perk up jaded customers.

Motorola’s upcoming phones promise a new sophisticated look with their rounded corners, well-designed buttons, and a metallic finish in colors such as red, silver grey and metallic black.

Details are scarce but three phones codenamed Rush 2, Calgary and Inferno are going to be available on the Verizon Wireless network next year, says the Boy Genius Report.

All three are touchscreen phones and it will be interesting to see what kind of operating system they run. Motorola has said it is working on new phones that will sport Google’s recently released open source operating system Android.

Motorola needs to get its 2009 releases right. The stakes are high for the company, which is looking more like beleaguered smartphone maker Palm these days.

Today Motorola said it will freeze salaries and pension plans of its employees and suspend matching 401(k) contributions as its struggles to turn around its business.

Vuzix Wrap 920AV Video Sunglasses Feature “See-Thru” Quantum Optics [Video Goggles]

latest gadgets  gizmodo  Software & Technology

So what is “see-thru” quantum optics anyway?

The stylish Wrap 920AV functions with any media playing device with a video output and projects a virtual 60-inch screen, as viewed from 9-feet. The state-of-the-art lens technology also allows users for the first time to view 3D video content while seeing and interacting with the real world. This incredible blend of reality and computer generated content will transform the world of portable video while opening up the consumer to previously impossible “location aware” applications. An optional 6-Degree of Freedom tracking sensor and/or Stereo Camera Pair will enable users to upgrade their Wrap 920AV to experience virtual, augmented and mixed reality environments.

If the glasses work as advertised, interacting with 3D digital content within a real world landscape might be a big step towards decent, workable virtual reality. Plus, the battery life has been bumped up to around six hours (not to mention a significant reduction in the Geordi factor of the design). The glasses are slated for release in Spring of 2009 at an undisclosed price.

Hybrid Technologies Supercar Crushes Prius And Corvette

There’s a car that’s not slated for release until 2009 or 2010. It makes some wild claims. And no one in the media has driven it yet (since it’s still in production). But with those caveats in mind, continue on to drop your jaw at Hybrid Technologies‘ upcoming still-nameless supercar.

Hybrid Technologies is working on a car coming in two flavors—all electric and hybrid. With the electric, they promise a 150 to 180-mile range per charge. With the lithium-ion hybrid, they promise a 220mpg minimum.

Those specs would be impressive in a golf cart.

But the most compelling part of it all is the alleged performance. Popular Mechanics asked Hybrid Technologies if their car could compete with the Corvette ZR-1 and its crazy V8 that induces mid-600s-scale horsepower. The company responded that they were “way out of the ballpark—it’s gonna be wild.”

Mission EV Electric Sports Bike Runs 150mph

Mission EV Electric Sports Bike

There have been some fair electric cars are set come out with a bang and there over the past couple of years, but valuable little in the form of bikes, so far.

This curvy looking beauty, which looks extraordinarily like something Batman would ride around on, is the Mission One EV Sports Bike and the ability of arriving at speeds up 150mph.

On the other hand, you will also get around 150 miles from the built in battery, even though we doubt you’d be capable of to do this distance at top speed, and best of all it’s equipped recharging in under two hours which is a far cry from the original ‘overnight’ times of the early Teslas.

Quite surprisingly, this is not a concept design either and even though the first 50 will be limited edition models which costs around $68.995 each, a ‘more reasonable’ alternative is going to be declared in the summer. The first lot is ready to be delivered in 2010, though it will in addition be making its race debut at the TTXGP on June 12th.

World’s Fastest Electric Car

electric-car

The world’s fastest electric car that can arrive at speeds of 208mph has been exposed. The Ultimate Aero EV formed by Shelby Supercars consumes a twin motor AESP creating an amazing 1,000 HP and 800 lb-ft of torque facilitating it to rocket to 60 mph in a mere 2.5 seconds and arrive at a top speed of 208 mph.

However, not only does the Ultimate Aero EV have a range of 150-200 miles on a single charge, but SSC’s Charge on the RunTM onboard charging system lets for full battery recharges in a bit 10 minutes. SSC’s 3-speed automatic transmission transfers the Ultimate Aero EV’s power to its wheels and attains electronically controlled shift times of .24 s. On the contrary, the present electric sports car flagbearer that is the Tesla Roadster which was currently tested by Jeremy Clarkson on Top Gear develops 250 horse powers.

Once the Ultimate Aero EV’s batteries are charged it will have a series in between 150 and 200 miles. The manufacturer anticipates rolling out pre-production versions of the vehicle, which contain a three-speed automatic gearbox, by June. The petrol-engine SSC Ultimate Aero TT is presently the quickest production car in the world, with a fastest recorded speed of 257 mph. This speed was supposedly attained during tests on September 13, 2007 in West Richland and established by Guinness World Records on October 9, 2007.

Latest concept: The Chess car…give me a break!!!

We’re always mad about new technology / gadget concepts and that’s why we decided to report about the Chess car even though we didn’t actually like the look of it. The Chess mobile is a concept by Dutch designer Frans Hegge and Thijs van der Zanden.

What’s the idea behind it and why does it look like this? The idea is that driving it will ensure more passenger and driver safer, the cabin / spacewagon-like thingy resting on top of a platform that can move it around in the unfortunate event of a crash, can keep passengers out of the deformation zone (the area of the car that is subjected to most impact). In theory, the passengers would experience a lot less of the force, or at least the cabin wouldn’t be smashed in, so injuries are a lot less likely.

Theoretically great, safe and ‘futuristic looking’, but I wonder how many wouldn’t mind sitting in one of these, may be it’s just me, the look of it doesn’t appeal to me at all, but maybe this is what future cars will look like in 20 – 30 years time!

The Chess car was recently submitted by it’s designers to the 2008 Michelin Challenge Design, feel free to click on the images below for a closer look.
